About

I’m Ben, near Bristol in the UK. I’ve been photographing, reviewing, posting features and recording podcast episodes  focused on audio cassettes and cassette culture. It’s a format that, rising from the ashes, excites me a lot! I remember swapping mixtapes in the 80’s and 90’s, tentatively waiting for the next track and listening in the order intended by the producer. It is that holistic experience of listening to an album or EP in the order that somebody agonised over that really captures my imagination.

Initially I built an audience and rebuilt my affection for the format of cassette by focusing on nostalgia. Favourite albums like OK Computer, Different Class were rediscovered, whilst photography of Rolling Stones and Joy Division cassettes in my dark, moody style have received a lot of positive feedback.

The next stage of the project is to switch my focus to current and emerging bands and artists who release new material on tapes. It’s an incredibly exciting space that allows people with real talent to produce something incredibly artistic without having to put up a massive financial commitment. I want to review, photograph, produce and promote cassette-based music for those who have always loved it, and those who are still to discover it.

If you are an artist, band, record label, home producer or just a tinkerer of tapes, and you’d like to collaborate, send tapes for photography/review/podcast inclusion, or you want to contribute content, please get in touch.

This site/label/podcast will be lots of fun. I’d like you to be a part of that.
